The more members we have the greater our influence!
The Tarka Rail Association is a voluntary organisation which exists to support and
further the interests of users of the rail line between Exeter and Barnstaple.
a membership of over two hundred, the Association issues a magazine three times a
year, containing articles by members and by other individuals connected with organisations
that have something relevant to say with regard to the line's past, and its present
and future prospects. Through the magazine, members are kept informed of all developments
related to the line - timetables, stations, rolling stock, ticketing etc. Many articles
relate to the political lobbying work undertaken by the Group, necessary not only
in order to keep the future of the line assured, but also to promote its further
We believe that our role as an independent advocate for the line is particularly
important, and we fulfil this role by developing positive working relationships with
the other stakeholders in the line, including
* railway companies (principally Network Rail and the train operator),
* local councils,
* multi-agency groups, such as the Tarka Line Forum and the Devon & Cornwall Rail
and, most importantly for us,
* existing and potential users of the line, and the communities it serves.
Our recent efforts have resulted in the introduction of a “clockface timetable”,
with trains departing at the same time past the hour for much of the day. The Tarka
Line Walks bookletis another new venture. From station flower competitions to liasing
with local bus companies to co-ordinate their services with train departures, the
Tarka Rail Association is working on your behalf.
We depend on our members to keep us in touch with the views of the line’s existing
and potential users: the more members we have, the more representative we become.
